Mike & Don from the Knoxville area headed to our shop on the South Holston River for a day of fishing. Mike reserved a guide tripwith us for his pal Don, as a birthday gift. Happy Birthday Don! After a stop at the shop for some supplies we headed to the river. Once in the river we went over a few tailwater tips as both these guys are smaller stream mountain fisherman. After about 30 minutes getting more comfortable with the larger water and conditions both guys were getting strikes and only a few minutes after that Mike was hooked up with his first fish of the day! A beutiful 13″ South Holston Rainbow! Followed soon after by Don hooking into his first tailwater fish a colorfull wild brown! We stuck with dry dropper riggs all day. This also new as these guys dont fish a nymph much. After some friendly ribbing from one pal to the other about going to the dark side( nymph fishing) several more fish were hooked with 10 or so coming to hand. After a brief break and talk of the amazing amount of rising fish and the smaller flies used on the tailwaters as compaired to mountain stream fishing we headed for the truck to change location for a couple more hours of fishing.
After a short hike into our evening spot and only a few steps in the water Mike was on fish missing several and landing 3 in only a few minutes. We worked over quite a few runs and both guys managed to bring several fish to hand. As the evening sun set and the temps dropped fishing got a little tough, we still managed a few to hand. With the last fish of the day coming on the last cast by Don with a sulpher DRY!! A fiesty little rainbow to cap off a great day !!
THANKS GUYS!!!!!
