A tribute to Gene McGuire.
If any of you knew Gene McGuire from Columbia , SC, you know he was bigger than life…in some ways literally. Gene was a tall, big man. And he was a good one. He could sell you anything, tell you tales , laugh with the best of them, and love you. After my heart attack, Gene wrote me and let me know there was life after heart disease, for he had the same problem as I. Gene had a great Heart , he just had heart disease.
His life long buddy, Ed Eubanks called me today and told of Gene’s quite passing from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For Gene was a true Christian and was not afraid to tell you so. He will be truly missed by many but none as much as by his lovely wife Kathy. You could tell these two loved each other.
Gene , Ed and his other lifelong friend Archie may have been Matt’s first clients on the South Holston River. I remember that day well. Let me tell you one thing about Gene McGuire , he could fly fish. He could flat catch trout. Whether it be on his beloved Green River or anywhere, he had his own method and it worked. Gene hammered them. Two weeks ago, he and Ed drove from Columbia SC to the South Holston. Fished all day and Ed said Gene drove wide open back to Columbia so he could be with Kathy. I am 68 years old and I know Gene was older than me. He was one tough man.
Thank God for Men like Gene McGuire and I know he will rest in peace. For he is with his Lord.
